A Day in the Life of the Director of Project Success Managers (DPSM)...
It’s Tuesday morning, and after you get caffeinated you check in with a Pod Lead to get feedback on a PSM who had been struggling to align on a plan to meet the timeline on a client workstream. You had discussed a variety of options, and you’re checking to see how the improvement is going. As the capability manager of all of the PSMs, you want to get the perspective of his Pod Lead as well.
During your 1:1 with the PSM, you spend time giving her feedback on her work and provide coaching and guidance on some of the questions she has, posing questions like, “what do you think makes sense to do here?” to encourage her thinking.
Before lunch, you join the mteam (management team) meeting. On the agenda today is People Rocket’s business processes. You present metrics and quality data collected on the existing process that indicate a few challenges before leading a brainstorming session to get at solving them. You will document the proposed changes and share them with the relevant folks in the Pod Lead meeting and PSM sync.
In the afternoon you put the final touches on a new project structure that you co-designed with two Pod Leads that you will be presenting to mteam next week. The work incorporates changes to the design process, client communication, and your section of project management. This should enable more efficient utilization of the team and increase client satisfaction scores on the surveys you launched last quarter.
The day is almost over, but you need to check in on a few quarterly projects to make sure you are ready for tomorrow’s meeting where you plan to share updates and any issues you’re facing. Two internal projects look off and you slack the PSMs on both to get more details — you know these will come up in discussion.
You share your unfinished work with SLT on a new idea for a dashboard that provides information relevant to the quality of projects that you have been exploring with PSMs to get some early feedback. You know showing an early draft will help align on direction and save you a lot of time and work in the long run.
Yesterday you got pulled in to help problem solve a software access solution and spent the evening with a PSM and Pod Lead getting ready for a client workshop. After reflecting today, you ping them both to remind them to take an afternoon off next week and you schedule one for yourself too. You deserve it.
